Cpl. Henry Terry

Raised on a farm in Petersburg, Illinois, Terry grew up hunting and operating the family’s “gasoline motor tractor.” Joining the Marines shortly before the war, he was in Boot Camp when the Pearl Harbor attack occurred, his future changing in an instant. Initially assigned to the 2nd Marine Division in San Diego, California, for some unknown reason he was transferred across the country in February 1942 to the 23rd Marine Regiment in New River, North Carolina. There he served with the 23rd Marines for a year, until he was transferred once again in May 1943 – this time to the newly-forming 25th Marines.
